Ādi māsē Kṛttikā nakṣatra, your city-r bābē
Āḍi Kṛttikai is the day of Kṛttikā Nakṣatra in the Tamil solar month of Āṭi (Sun in Karkaṭa Rāśi). It is one of several Kṛttikā-nakṣatra observances in the Tamil calendar (Kārttikai Dīpam, in the month of Kārttikai, is the better-known sibling), each tied to a different solar month's occurrence of the same nakṣatra.
The day is associated with both Lord Murugan (Kārtikeya), whose name Kārtikeya itself derives from Kṛttikā, and with Lord Śiva, worshipped in many Śaiva households on Kṛttikā-nakṣatra days generally. Lamps are lit at dusk, and temple visits are common in Tamil Nadu.
Regional and family observance can vary. Please confirm with your own community's convention where it differs from what is shown here.
