Andal was found as a baby in the Tulasi garden of Periyalwar at Srivilliputhur, and he raised her as his daughter Kodhai. She secretly wore the garlands meant for the Lord before they were offered, and the Lord accepted only those, so she is called Choodikodutha Sudarkodi.
She resolved to marry none but the Lord, and was united with Sri Ranganatha at Srirangam. Her Thiruppavai is recited in homes and temples every morning of the month of Margazhi.
