Bhoothath Alwar, the second of the Mudhal Alwars, appeared in a madhavi flower at Thirukkadalmallai, today's Mamallapuram. He was one of the three Alwars who met the Lord in the narrow passage at Thirukkovalur.
There, taking love as the lamp, longing as the oil and his melting mind as the wick, he lit the lamp of knowledge and sang Irandam Thiruvandhadhi.
