Madhurakavi Alwar Thirunakshatram 2027: April 20, Mount Vernon

Madhurakavi Alwar was a learned Vedic scholar of Thirukkolur. While on pilgrimage in the north, he saw a bright light in the southern sky, followed it all the way to Thirukkurugur, and found the young Nammalwar sitting in silence under a tamarind tree.

He accepted Nammalwar as his acharya and served him for the rest of his life. His single hymn, Kanninun Siruthambu, praises his guru rather than the Lord, and is honoured as the model of devotion to the acharya.
