Manavala Mamunigal is traditionally dated 1370 to 1443 CE. A disciple of Thiruvaimozhi Pillai, he spent his life at Srirangam restoring the temple traditions and teaching the Alwars' works and their commentaries.
After he expounded Thiruvaimozhi before Sri Ranganatha for a full year, the Lord, appearing as a small child, recited the verse Srisailesa Dayapatram and accepted him as His own acharya. He is the last acharya of the Sri Vaishnava guruparampara and established the eight disciples known as the Ashtadiggajas.
