நம்மாழ்வார் · ವೈಕಾಸಿ, ವಿಶಾಖಾ
Nammalwar was born at Thirukkurugur to Kariyar and Udaiyanangai. From birth he did not cry or take food, and he sat in silent meditation under a tamarind tree for sixteen years, until Madhurakavi Alwar came and he began to speak.
His four works are held to give the essence of the four Vedas in Tamil, and Thiruvaimozhi is called the Dravida Veda. He is honoured as the foremost of the Alwars, the head of the line of Sri Vaishnava acharyas after the Lord and Thayar.
