Nathamuni, commonly placed in the 9th and 10th centuries CE, is the first of the Sri Vaishnava acharyas. Hearing ten verses of Thiruvaimozhi sung at Kattumannarkoil, he searched for the rest and reached Alwarthirunagari, where he recited Madhurakavi Alwar's Kanninun Siruthambu twelve thousand times.
Pleased, Nammalwar appeared to him and gave him all four thousand verses of the Divya Prabandham. Nathamuni arranged them, set them to music and taught them to his nephews. He was the grandfather of Yamunacharya.
