Vedanta Desika lived, by tradition, from 1268 to 1369 CE. Born Venkatanatha at Thoopul in Kanchipuram, he was a poet, philosopher and teacher who wrote in Sanskrit, Tamil and Manipravalam on a vast range of subjects.
Sri Ranganatha gave him the title Vedantacharya. He composed the thousand verses of Paduka Sahasram in a single night, and during the invasion of Srirangam he is remembered for saving the Sruta Prakasika commentary on the Sri Bhashya.
