ஆளவந்தார் · Aadi, Uthiradam
Yamunacharya, the grandson of Nathamuni, won a debate against the royal scholar of the Chola court while still a boy. The queen called him Alavandar, the one who came to rule, and he was given half the kingdom.
Through the patient efforts of Manakkal Nambi, who taught him the Gita and brought him before Sri Ranganatha, he gave up royal life and became the head of the tradition at Srirangam. He chose Ramanuja as his successor, and at his passing three of his fingers stayed folded, which Ramanuja understood as three wishes and fulfilled.
