Jalārām Jayantī 2219

Jalārām Jayantī is observed on Kārtika Śukla Saptamī, a week after Dīpāvalī. It marks the birth anniversary of Sant Jalārām Bāpā (1799-1881) of Vīrpur in Saurāṣṭra, a devotee of Śrī Rāma remembered for his service to the hungry.

Jalārām Bāpā ran a sadāvrata, a kitchen that fed everyone who came, and the tradition continues at Vīrpur today. On Jalārām Jayantī devotees gather for bhajans, prayers and community meals.
