About
Kāṇum Poṅgal
Kaanum Pongal (காணும் பொங்கல்), "the Pongal of seeing", is the fourth and last day of the Pongal festival, two days after Thai Pongal. Some call it Kanni Pongal.
It is a day for people: families go out to see relatives and friends, younger members seek the blessings of elders, and gifts and sweets are exchanged. Beaches, river banks and parks fill with families on outings, and in Chennai the Marina is crowded from morning to night.
Leftover Pongal and the sugarcane of the festival are shared, and in many villages the day ends with games and folk performances.
