Magha Shraddha is a Pitru-tarpana (ancestor-remembrance) observance performed during Pitru Paksha (Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha in the amanta reckoning, Ashwin Krishna Paksha in the purnimanta reckoning), on the day Magha Nakshatra rules Aparahna Kala, the afternoon period regarded as most auspicious for Shraddha rites.

Magha Nakshatra, presided over by the Pitrs (ancestral manes) themselves, is traditionally held to be especially significant for Shraddha -- performing the rite on this day is regarded as carrying particular merit for the satisfaction of one's ancestors.

When the same day also carries Trayodashi Tithi ruling Aparahna Kala alongside Magha Nakshatra, the observance is specifically known as Magha Trayodashi Shraddha, and is traditionally associated with remembrance of those who passed in childhood or through unnatural causes.

As with all Shraddha days within Pitru Paksha, the rite typically involves tarpana (water offerings), pinda daana, and the feeding of Brahmins and family members in honor of departed ancestors.
