About

Maṇavāḷa Māmuṉigal Tirunakṣatram

Manavala Mamunigal, also called Ramya Jamatru Muni and Periya Jeeyar, was born in 1370 at Alwarthirunagari, on the star Moolam in the Tamil month Aippasi. Sri Vaishnavas revere him as the one in whom Sri Ramanuja came again.

He spent his life at Srirangam teaching the works of the Alwars and the acharyas and writing commentaries on them. By tradition, at the end of a year of his discourses on the Eedu, the great commentary on Nammalwar's Tiruvaimozhi, Lord Ranganatha himself came as a child and gave him the taniyan "Srisailesa dayapatram", recited ever since at the start of the Divya Prabandham.

On his Tirunakshatram his sannidhis at Srirangam, Alwarthirunagari and Kanchipuram are honoured with special worship and recitation.
