A merchant of Pazhaiyarai who gave loincloths (kovanam) and food to devotees at Thirunallur. Shiva came as a brahmachari, left a loincloth in his keeping and made it disappear.
To make good the loss, Amarneedi placed all his wealth, then his wife, his son and himself on the scales against the cloth. The scale balanced, rose into the sky as a celestial car, and carried the family to Shiva.
