Ilayankudi Mara Nayanar Guru Puja 2027: August 30, Mount Vernon

A farmer of Ilayankudi who fed every devotee of Shiva who came to his door. When he had become poor, a devotee arrived on a night of heavy rain. Maranar gathered the seed paddy he had sown that day from the flooded field, and broke the rafters of his house for firewood so that his wife could cook.

The guest was Shiva, who appeared in light and blessed the couple with a place in His abode.
