A wealthy merchant of Kaveripoompattinam who had vowed never to refuse anything a devotee of Shiva asked. Shiva came as a brahmin devotee and asked for his wife, and Iyarpagai gave her without hesitation and escorted them safely past his angry kinsmen.

Shiva then revealed himself with Uma and took Iyarpagai and his wife to His abode.
