A merchant of Thiruppennagadam who washed the feet of every devotee before feeding them. One day a devotee arrived who had once been a servant in the house, and Kalikambar's wife hesitated to pour the water.
Holding service to devotees above everything, Kalikambar cut off her hand and carried on the rite himself. Shiva blessed him for his single-minded devotion.
