Kungiliya Kalaya Nayanar Guru Puja 2027: September 8, Mount Vernon

A brahmin of Thirukkadavur who offered kungiliyam (guggulu incense) daily to Shiva. In poverty he exchanged his wife's mangalsutra for a bale of incense and offered it all; Shiva filled his house with grain and wealth.

Later, at Thiruppanandal, he tied a rope to the leaning Linga and to his own neck and pulled with all his devotion until it stood upright.
