A chieftain of the Malayaman line who ruled from Thirukkovalur and honoured the holy ash above all else. His enemy Muthanathan, disguised as a Shaiva ascetic, came to him claiming to bring a rare sacred text and stabbed him as he bowed to receive it.
Even as he fell, Meiporul ordered his guard Dathan to escort the attacker safely out of the city, because he wore the marks of a devotee. Shiva appeared and granted him eternal union.
