A Vellala of Thiruverkadu who would eat only after feeding Shiva's devotees. When his wealth ran out, he went to Thirukudanthai and played dice, using all his winnings to feed devotees.

He dealt fiercely with any who cheated him at play, and so came to be called Murkha. He kept his service without fail and attained Shiva's feet.
