A brahmin of Emapperur who worshipped daily at Tiruvarur. Wanting to light lamps at the Araneri shrine, he asked a neighbouring house for oil and was mocked by Jains, who told him to light them with water.

By Shiva's word he filled the lamps with water from the temple tank, and they burned brightly all night. Shiva later showed him that all those born in Tiruvarur are His ganas.
