A Chola king of Uraiyur who honoured Shiva's devotees and is also remembered in the story of Eripatha. After a war, among the heads brought from the battlefield he saw one with matted hair, the sign of a devotee.
Grieving that a devotee had been killed in his campaign, he placed the head in a golden vessel on his own head and entered a fire, and attained Shiva's feet.
