A washerman of Kanchipuram who washed the clothes of Shiva's devotees, understanding their needs without being told. Shiva came as a poor devotee in the rainy season and asked for his only cloth to be washed and returned by evening.
When rain prevented the cloth from drying, the devotee began to dash his head against the washing stone. Shiva's hand came out of the stone to stop him, and He granted him a place in His abode.
