A Vellala devotee of Chengunrur in the Malai Nadu, devoted above all to Shiva's devotees. At Tiruvarur, seeing Sundarar pass the assembled devotees without first bowing to them, he declared Sundarar outside the fold.

His protest led Shiva to inspire Sundarar to sing the Thiruthondar Thogai in praise of the devotees. Shiva made Viranmindar a leader of His ganas.
