ଆଡି ମାସରେ ଆଣ୍ଡାଳଙ୍କ ଜନ୍ମ ନକ୍ଷତ୍ର
Aadi Pooram (ஆடிப்பூரம்) is the day of the Pooram (Purva Phalguni) star in the Tamil month Aadi, the birth star of Andal (Kodhai), the only woman among the twelve Alwars.
At Srivilliputhur, Periyalwar found the child under a tulasi plant in the temple garden and raised her as his daughter. She wove garlands for the Lord and wore them first herself, and the Lord accepted only the garlands she had worn: she is Soodikodutha Sudarkodi, the bright creeper who gave what she had worn. She sang the Tiruppavai and the Nachiyar Tirumozhi and was united with Lord Ranganatha at Srirangam.
At Srivilliputhur Aadi Pooram is the great festival of the year, and Andal and Rangamannar come out on the temple chariot. In Amman temples across Tamil Nadu the day is also Valaikappu: the Goddess is adorned with glass bangles, and women offer bangles and pray for children and a safe delivery.
