Every Tuesday of the Tamil month Aadi: Amman, Murugan and Avvaiyar Nonbu
Aadi Sevvai (ஆடி செவ்வாய்) is every Tuesday of the Tamil month Aadi, the month of the Goddess. With Aadi Velli, the Tuesdays of Aadi are the great days of Amman worship across Tamil Nadu.
Mariamman and the village goddesses receive pongal, koozh and lime garlands, and devotees carry kumbham and pal kudam to the temples. Tuesday is also Murugan's day, and his shrines are crowded.
On Aadi Tuesdays women keep Avvaiyar Nonbu (Avvaiyar Vratam): late at night, with no men present, they prepare salt-free kozhukattai and offer them to Avvaiyar, praying for the family's welfare.
