Kartik Shukla Pratipada: the "mountain of food" offered to Krishna, the day after Diwali
Annakoot, literally a "mountain of food," is the offering of a vast and varied spread of cooked grains, sweets, and vegetables to Lord Krishna and Govardhan Hill. The tradition recalls how the villagers of Vraj first offered a mountain of food to Govardhan Hill itself, before Krishna lifted the hill to shelter them from Indra's torrential rain.
Annakoot is especially prominent in Vaishnava temples, particularly those of the Pushtimarg (Vallabha Sampradaya), and is widely celebrated across North Indian temples on this day, which falls on Kartik Shukla Pratipada, the day after Diwali.
