Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha: Shraddha offered when Bharani Nakshatra rules Aparahna Kala
Bharani Shraddha is a Pitru-tarpana (ancestor-remembrance) observance performed during Pitru Paksha (Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha in the amanta reckoning, Ashwin Krishna Paksha in the purnimanta reckoning), on the day Bharani Nakshatra rules Aparahna Kala, the afternoon period regarded as most auspicious for Shraddha rites.
Bharani Nakshatra is traditionally associated with Yama, the lord of death and dharma, and Shraddha performed on this day is regarded as carrying particular significance for honoring one's ancestors -- in many traditions this occasion is also referred to as Maha Bharani Shraddha.
As with all Shraddha days within Pitru Paksha, the rite typically involves tarpana (water offerings), pinda daana, and the feeding of Brahmins and family members in honor of departed ancestors.
