Jyeshtha Lakshmi Vratam 2026

Jyeshtha Lakshmi Vratam, also known as Jyestha Gowri Puja or Jyeshtha Gauri, is a three-day observance in the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Bhadrapada, close to Ganesh Chaturthi: Aavahan (invocation) on the day ruled by Anuradha Nakshatra, Puja (worship) on the day ruled by Jyeshtha Nakshatra, and Visarjan (immersion) on the day ruled by Moola Nakshatra. Jyeshtha Nakshatra, and its closeness to Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami, is what anchors the whole sequence: classical sources treat the Puja day's determination as resting on whichever of the two carries the greater weight for a given year, and the two flanking days simply follow the day fixed for Puja.

The vrata is rooted in a Puranic account: oppressed by asuras, women took refuge in Shri Mahalakshmi Gauri. She slew the asuras on Bhadrapada Shukla Ashtami, restoring the well-being of their husbands and of all beings, an act still recalled in the vrata's central prayer for Akhand Saubhagya (unbroken marital and household well-being) and prosperity.
