Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Mahaswamigal, lovingly called Mahaperiyava and Paramacharya, was the 68th Acharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. He was born on 20 May 1894 at Villupuram, in the Tamil month of Vaikasi under the Anusham (Anuradha) star, and was named Swaminathan. He became the head of the Peetham in 1907, at the age of thirteen.
For nearly ninety years he walked the length of India, teaching the Vedas, Sanatana Dharma and simple devotion, and devotees called him the Nadamadum Deivam, the walking God. He attained siddhi at Kanchipuram on 8 January 1994.
Because he was born under Anusham, devotees gather every month on the Anusham day for puja, Veda parayanam and bhajans in his memory, and the Anusham of Vaikasi is his Jayanthi. The dates below are for your city; tap a date to open that day's panchang.
