Amanta Vaishakha Krishna Paksha Prathama: the birth anniversary of Sage Narada
Narada Jayanti commemorates the birth of Sage Narada (Devarshi Narada), the celestial rishi and devotee-messenger of Lord Vishnu, renowned throughout the Puranas as a wandering sage, storyteller, and musician who carries news and counsel between the worlds of gods, sages, and mortals.
The observance falls on Amanta Vaishakha Krishna Paksha Prathama — the same tithi is called Purnimanta Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha Prathama under this site's other supported month-naming convention; both names refer to the identical day, not two different rules.
Day-selection is sunrise-vyapti: the civil day is the one whose sunrise the Prathama tithi is ruling. In years when the tithi rules two consecutive sunrises (a vriddhi tithi), the first day is taken.
The observance is kept only in a Nija (normal) Vaishakha month. An ordinary Adhika (leap) Vaishakha is excluded, with the Nija occurrence taken instead — except when that Adhika month is Samsarpa-samjnaka (its own Nija counterpart never arrives that lunar cycle), in which case the Adhika occurrence itself is kept.
