Panguni Uttiram 2135: Pomona, California

Panguni Uttiram, also known as Lakshmi Jayanthi, is celebrated when the Uttara Phalguni Nakshatra prevails during Panguni Masa -- the Tamil solar month coinciding with the Sun's transit through Meena (Pisces) rashi, typically mid-March through mid-April.

The day carries significance across several traditions. In Vaishnava tradition it is observed as Lakshmi Jayanti, commemorating Goddess Lakshmi's appearance. In Tamil Shaiva and Murugan temple tradition, it is celebrated as a celestial wedding day -- of Shiva and Parvati, and of Lord Murugan (Skanda) with Deivanai and, in some regional traditions, Valli. Some traditions also observe it as the anniversary of Sri Rama and Sita's wedding.

Panguni Uttiram Nirnaya, like most panchang determinations, has been interpreted somewhat differently across sampradayas and regional traditions over the centuries -- please follow the convention observed by your own family or tradition where it differs from what is shown here.
