Thai Velli (தை வெள்ளி) is every Friday of the Tamil month Thai, the month that opens with Pongal and is welcomed with the saying "Thai pirandhal vazhi pirakkum": when Thai is born, a way opens.

Friday belongs to the Goddess, and the Fridays of Thai are among the most auspicious of the year for Amman, Lakshmi and Durga. Homes are cleaned and decorated with kolam, lamps are lit in the evening, and women recite the Lalitha Sahasranama and Abhirami Anthathi. Amman temples hold special abhishekam and alankaram, and devotees offer lime lamps and pongal.
