ਨਿਰਣਯਸਿੰਧੁ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ, ਖੁੰਝੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਰਮ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਸਚਿਤ ਲਈ ਵਰਤ (ਉਪਵਾਸ) ਜਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਜਾਪਤਯ ਕ੍ਰਿੱਛ੍ਰ ਕਰੋ।
ਨਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜਲ ਸਰੋਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਦਾ ਰਿਸ਼ੀ ਤਰਪਣ ਅਰਪਿਤ ਕਰੋ -- ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਬਾਕੀ ਦੋਸ਼ ਸ਼ੁੱਧ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Upakarma is the annual renewal of the sacred thread (yajnopavita) and the resumption of Vedic study. Each Veda observes it on its own day: Rigveda Upakarma, Yajur Upakarma (Shravani Upakarma, Aavani Avittam) and Samaveda Upakarma.
