Pasankusa Ekadasi

When Yudhishthira asked about the Ekadashi of Ashvayuja Shukla, Sri Krishna named it Papankusha, the goad that restrains sin, and told him to worship Vishnu as Padmanabha, the lotus naveled Lord, on this day.

Krishna declared that a thousand ashvamedhas and a hundred rajasuya sacrifices do not equal a sixteenth part of the merit of this fast. One who keeps it does not see the punishments of Yama. Its merit uplifts ten generations on the mother's side, ten on the father's side and ten on the wife's side.

He also warned that one devoted to Vishnu must not speak ill of Shiva, nor one devoted to Shiva speak ill of Vishnu. Fasting, a night of vigil and charity on this day bring health, wealth, good children and finally the abode of Vishnu.
