Rāmānuja Jayanti 2085

Ramanuja Jayanti, the Udayavar Tirunakshatram, is the birth star of Sri Ramanujacharya: Thiruvadirai (Ardra) in the Tamil month Chittirai. He was born in 1017 at Sriperumbudur and lived, by tradition, for a hundred and twenty years.

Ramanuja gave the Vishishtadvaita philosophy its full form in the Sri Bhashya, his commentary on the Brahma Sutras, along with the Vedartha Sangraha and the Gita Bhashya. He ordered the worship at Srirangam, restored the temple at Melkote, and opened the sacred mantra to all who sought it, calling them all to the Lord. He is Udayavar, "the one who owns both worlds", and Emperumanar.

At Sriperumbudur the ten-day festival ends on the Tirunakshatram, and at Srirangam, Melkote and every Sri Vaishnava temple his sannidhi is honoured with special worship and recitation of the Ramanuja Nootrandhadi.
