Rigveda Upakarma 2121: Benares, Uttar Pradesh

Rigveda Upakarma is the annual renewal of the sacred thread (yajnopavita) observed by Rigveda-following households, traditionally anchored to Shravana Nakshatra in Shravana Shukla Paksha.

Per the Kalatattva-Vivechana's compilation verses, the primary timing is Shravana Nakshatra; if that is unavailable or afflicted by Grahana, Sankranti, or Guru/Shukra Asta, Panchami Tithi is taken next, then Hasta Nakshatra, and if none of those work in Shravana masa, the same order is tried again in Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha.

The table below shows the computed date, both for those repeating the observance and for those performing it for the first time.
