Shravana Dvadashi 2022

Shravana Dvadashi is observed when Dvadashi in the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of Bhadrapada combines with Shravana Nakshatra. When Ekadashi, Dvadashi, and Shravana Nakshatra all overlap together, with Shravana directly touching both tithis, this forms Vishnushrankhala Yoga (Vishnu's Chain), and the fast is observed on the first of the two candidate days.

Otherwise, the day is decided by how much of the daytime (extending into the night only up to the end of the first Prahara) Dvadashi and Shravana Nakshatra overlap: at least one muhurta (2 ghatikas, 48 minutes) of overlap qualifies a day; if both candidate days qualify, the first day is taken.

Both Vaishnavas and Smarthas observe this fast in place of a separate Ekadashi fast on the Shravana-joined Dvadashi.
