About

Sītā Navamī (Jānakī Jayantī)

Sītā Navamī (सीता नवमी), also called Janaki Navami and Jānakī Jayanti, celebrates the appearance of Sita Devi, consort of Lord Rama. She was found by King Janaka of Mithila in a furrow of the earth while he ploughed the field for a yajna, and was raised as his daughter, Janaki.

Devotees, especially married women, fast and worship Sita and Rama together for harmony in the home and the wellbeing of the family. Temples of Rama hold special worship, and the day is kept with special devotion in Mithila, Ayodhya and Sitamarhi.
