Sītā Navamī (Jānakī Jayantī)

Sita Navami (सीता नवमी), also called Janaki Navami and Janaki Jayanti, celebrates the appearance of Sita Devi, consort of Lord Rama. She was found by King Janaka of Mithila in a furrow of the earth while he ploughed the field for a yajna, and was raised as his daughter, Janaki.

Devotees, especially married women, fast and worship Sita and Rama together for harmony in the home and the wellbeing of the family. Temples of Rama hold special worship, and the day is celebrated with great devotion in Mithila, Ayodhya and Sitamarhi.
