About

Sri Jayanti

Śrī Jayantī, the Śrī Vaiṣṇava observance of Lord Kṛṣṇa's birth, is computed differently by two independent traditions: the Munitraya Sampradāya and the Śrī Sannidhi Sampradāya of Śrī Ahobila Mutt. Both require the Sun in sidereal Siṃha (Leo) with Kṛṣṇa Pakṣa Aṣṭamī tithi and Rohiṇī nakṣatra, but apply different rule hierarchies for selecting the day when the two conditions don't align perfectly: they usually agree, but can differ by a day in some years.

This page shows both dates for your city, computed independently and side by side, so you can follow whichever tradition your family or lineage observes.

यदा यदा हि धर्मस्य ग्लानिर्भवति भारत। अभ्युत्थानमधर्मस्य तदात्मानं सृजाम्यहम्।।
Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata, abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānaṃ sṛjāmyaham.
"Whenever righteousness declines and unrighteousness rises, O Bharata, I manifest myself."

Sun in Siṃha, Both Traditions
Both the Munitraya and Śrī Sannidhi Sampradāyas require the Sun in sidereal Siṃha (Leo): a Saura (solar) gate neither Smārta nor Vaiṣṇava (ISKCON) Janmāṣṭamī calculations apply.
🪈
Munitraya Sampradāya
Uses a rule-priority cascade: Aṣṭamī and Rohiṇī can unite at sunrise, through the day and night, or at moonrise, with vedha (affliction) rules resolving which day to use when they don't.
🪔
Śrī Sannidhi Sampradāya
Śrī Ahobila Mutt's own independent lineage: every condition (Siṃha, Aṣṭamī, Rohiṇī, no vedha) must hold simultaneously on a single day, with zero tolerance for affliction, plus its own fallback sequence.
📅
Usually the Same, Sometimes Not
Both traditions typically land on the same date, since they share the same Aṣṭamī/Rohiṇī/Siṃha foundation: but their different affliction and fallback rules can shift one of them to a different day.
