Tamiḻ Hanumān Jayantī 2030
Mārgaḻi Amāvasyā united with Mūla nakṣatra: the South Indian observance of Añjaneya's birth
Tamiḻ Hanumān Jayantī
Tamil Hanumān Jayantī is the South Indian observance of Lord Hanumān's (Añjaneya's) birth, distinct from the Caitra Pūrṇimā-based Hanumān Jayantī observed in North India. It falls in the Tamil month of Mārgazhi, on the Amāvasyā (new moon) that coincides with the Sun's transit through Dhanu rāśi.
Mārgazhi is regarded as one of the most sacred months of the Tamil calendar, associated with early-morning devotion, the singing of the Tiruppāvai and Tiruvempāvai, and visits to temples before dawn. Tamil Hanumān Jayantī falls within this auspicious month, and where the day's ruling nakṣatra is Mūla (Hanumān's birth star in this tradition) that occurrence is given precedence.
Devotees mark the day with visits to Añjaneya/Hanumān temples, recitation of the Hanumān Cālīsā and other stotras, and the same spirit of fasting and devotion associated with Hanumān Jayantī observances elsewhere in India.
