Varāha Jayantī 2027
The appearance day of Lord Viṣṇu's Varāha avatāra, your city-r bābē
Varāha Jayantī
Varāha Jayantī commemorates the appearance of Lord Viṣṇu as Varāha, the divine boar, the third of the Daśāvatāra. According to the Purāṇas, when the demon Hiraṇyākṣa dragged the Earth (Bhūdevī) to the depths of the cosmic ocean, Viṣṇu took the form of Varāha, slew Hiraṇyākṣa, and lifted the Earth back to her place on his tusks. The observance falls in Bhādrapada Śukla Pakṣa, on Tṛtīyā.
The date is decided by which of two candidate days Tṛtīyā holds Aparāhṇa Kāla (the afternoon, the fourth of the day's five equal divisions): the second day is preferred whenever Tṛtīyā prevails there, or when it prevails on neither day; the first day is taken only when Tṛtīyā prevails at Aparāhṇa Kāla on the first day alone.
Varāha Jayantī Nirṇaya, like most pañcāṅga determinations, has been interpreted somewhat differently across sampradayas over the centuries: please follow the convention observed by your own family or tradition where it differs from what is shown here.
