Alwar Thirunakshatram 1997

The Alwars (Azhwars) were twelve Vaishnava poet-saints of South India, revered for their devotional hymns to Vishnu collected in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham. Each Alwar's Thirunakshatram, the day their own birth-star (nakshatra) recurs each year, while the Sun occupies a specific rashi, is observed as their sacred remembrance day. A separate section below also lists several later Vaishnava Acharyas honored the same way, who are not themselves among the 12 Alwars.

Like most panchang determinations, some of these dates have been interpreted somewhat differently across sampradayas and regional traditions. Please follow the convention observed by your own family or tradition where it differs from what is shown here.
